Text description beneath the picture (subject to any spelling errors due to the OCR program used) INVERARAY CASTLE. This Castle is situated about a quarter of a mile from the town of Inveraray, near the head of Loch Fyne, and is the residence of the Duke of Argyll. It is not of old date, having been erected about 1750, and must not be confounded with the old building associated with Scott's "Legend of Montrose," which was nearer the water, and all trace of which has disappeared. The present Castle was partly burnt down and rebuilt in 1877, and stands on flat ground by the side of the Aray. The surrounding meadow is remarkable for its beautiful timber of many sorts, which is of considerable age and fine growth, especially the beeches and firs. The woods behind the town, with their noble beech trees and avenues, are also celebrated in the scenery of Scotland.
