A card, 3-1/2 inches high by 4-3/8 inches wide, signed in black ink "Very sincerely yours / Ada Dyas / Jany 1888". The top edge of the card is creased. There is a glue stain to each corner of the verso with rubbing to the top corners where the card has been removed from an album. Good. Irish actress Ada Dyas [1843-1908] made her London debut in 1861 playing Prince John of Lancaster in "Henry IV'. She became famous in the highly successful 1871 production of Wilkie Collins' adaptation of his "Woman in White", playing the roles of Laura Fairlie and Anne Caherick. Her first American appearance was for Augustin Daly in 1872 in "Man and Wife", based on the Wilkie Collins novel. She later joined the James W. and Lester Wallack company where her most successful role was as Claire Ffolliott in Boucicault's "The Shaughraun" [a performance mentioned in Edith Wharton's "The Age of Innocence"].
