It is the original prompt book for the 2005 revised version of the World Premier 2004 production of the opera End of the Affair at the Madison Opera composed by Jake Heggie with libretto by Heather McDonald that was created by associate director Christopher Thomas. The prompt book consists of a Xerox copy of a 411 page vocal score annotated with notes in pencil presumably by the associate director to indicate stage directions such as the placement and movement of the cast, props, lights, and sounds in relation to the music and singing. The revised score was dated November 2004 but identified as a draft subject to change. Accompanying the score is a copy an email from the director Leonard Foglia to Christopher Thomas with a plan to restage the opera and a 12-page final version of the staging dated August 17, 2005. All of the items are in a plain dark green 3-ring binder. The opera The End of the Affair was co-commissioned and co-produced by the Houston Grand Opera, Madison Opera, and Opera Pacific. After performances at the Houston Grand Opera in 2004, Jake Heggie decided to revise the opera. The revised version was presented at the Madison Opera in 2005. All of the prompt books come from the estate sale of Christopher Thomas held after he passed away in 2016. For whatever reasons, he received credits for his stage direction jobs as Christopher Thomas, Christopher Harlan (the best name to find him on the Internet), and his full name Christopher Thomas Harlan.
