I've been looking for a good entry level katana to offer and this is best compromise I've found so far. None of the less expensive models had materials or construction that satisfied me. This one passed initial inspection with my assistant who generally finds fault with everything haha ('ahhhhh, I don't know...' my favorite quote), and my impression is good overall. Time will tell. My own Katana* came from a small forge in China and I paid about $450. I've seen quite a few from Hanwei that are well over $2,000. By comparison, this one seems great at this price! I don't think you'll be disappointed. Pros: Solid. Good Materials. Amazing blade, see geometry in the close-up photos, hand-forged according to manufacturer. Cons: The tsuba is hand painted. I think it was meant to look antiqued but a little sloppy. The wood display stand is not up to standards of the rest of sword but ok, characters on only one side btw. The katana I got for evaluation wasn't particularly sharp. Generally that's ok with me bc I like a weapons for cosplay and photo shoots, or when I use them with a sword pell it's better if they don't sink completely into the wood with every cut. I'll compare with others when I reorder since most of the reviews mention it's sharp. Overall though, highly recommended! Any questions just ask. See my Seller ratings and buy with confidence, plus I ship fast! * 1060 Carbon Steel offers a good compromise between hardness and pliability. It has high carbon content so it's not stainless. Manganese is added to prevent the blade from rusting but it still needs to be oiled and maintained regularly. Katanas made of it are popular because because when properly heat treated they become resilient but quite tough so it holds an edge well. * The plan is to buy one of these for myself so that I don't have to get my custom-made katana beat up if I want to chop up pumpkins for Halloween, practice with a sword pell or take it to the beach. Weighted evenly, perfectly straight, a decent hamon and a very sharp edge, secure and firm handle, ornate guard, and the case and stand were a great plus. Rating 5/5 starsSword is full tang (tang is more than 3/4 of the handle length, yes it is classified as full-tang). Fairly authentic reconstruction of very expensive katana swords out there. ...but there's not a chance of breaking it, the Mune (back of the blade) is 4-9 mm, which is almost 1 cm when it's close to tsuba. Compared to the folded steel ones, the sword is thicker, heavier but weighted evenly and swings really well. I am fairly confident the only way to destroy this sword is to use something with a sturdy sharp edge like a Chinese sword breaker, coming in 90 degree angle of attack crossing the blade.
