The diversity he has shown in the music helped create for such artists as Miles Davis, Luther Vandross, Marcus Miller, Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston, David Sanborn, Gato Barbieri and a host of other notables has had a true place in the growth of the contemporary Pop, Jazz R&B and Funk. He has had to reinvent himself 3 times to stay in the exalted space of the elite in this business. Brought up in the 1950's and 60's in Brooklyn, New York he was starting his journey at a golden time for music when everything was changing and he got to see those changes as a young musician being able to see the birth of the Beatles and then the changes that let him to hear music at iconic venues like the Fillmore East, Care Au Go Go, village Gate and other legendary venues. He got experience by playing in bands that played at parties, proms and spent 4 years in the legendary "Borscht Belt" hotels in the Catskill Mountains. Coming back to New York City after college he immersed himself in the New York scene learning, listening and studying all kinds of music but having a real fascination with the new technology of synthesizers and electronic keyboards. Hard work and struggles finally paid off whe musicians like Michagel Brecker and Lenny White recognized that Jason wasn't like everybody else and embraced his talent and spread the word which led him to an almost decade long association with the great bass player and up and coming producer Marcus Miller. Programming synthesizers for Marcus led to him creating masterpieces with Miles Davis (TuTu plus 2 more albums) and Luther Vandorss (his crossover into the pop music world) Roberta Flack and other major artists. When in the early 90's he saw the music business and studio world changing he took the lessons he learned from working with great producers like Marcus, Tommy LiPuma, Russ Titelman and others and started to reinvent himself as a producer, arranger and composer. Something he had been working on for years leading up to where his first major production got him an Emmy nomination for the album and film. people, that was the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the UN. He used his expanding rolodex to then bring great artists that he had worked with over the years to make the album. He then started to develop interesting reimagined projects that were unique in their own kind like Celebrating the Music of Weather Report, A tribute to the late Grover Washington Jr "To Grover with Love" his Grammy winning album " Love Affair The Music of Ivan Lins and that started him working with artists tat he always wanted to produce like Gato Barbieri whose album The Shadow of the Cat won Billboard Latin Jazz Album of the Year 2004 and got a Latin Grammy nomination. From there he started developing new and exciting projects like Soul Summit which with iconic musicians like Bob Babbitt, Reggie Young and Steve Ferrone explored a modern groove for soul music..an electronic world music groove band. Global Noize made three albums and a fourth one to be released in 2024 that featured iconic musicians like Bernie Worrell, Karl Denson, DJ Logic and international singer Falu to bring that music to a whole other place that was critically acclaimed and toured and played at many great festivals and venues. He now has also developed a new small electronic band Kind and New based on Miles Davis's Cellar Door project with Keith Jarrett on Fender Rhodes that has now brought him to a new place. The first album that featured trumpeter Ingrid Jensen got global acclaim making many top 10 lists of 2016 and then followed by the next project Jason Miles King of New.. Black magic which again was half live and half in the studio. Covid put a damper on touring plans. And now the step in Jason’s life is his move to LIsbon, Portugal with his wife of many years, Kathy. And a new EP of live material dedicated to Miles Davis called Miles to Miles which is material from his globally heralded 2005 album Miles to Miles which will be out in Spring of 2023 on Ropeadope. There are so many things Jason STill wants to do after all these years and he hopes that being in Europe will help him expand his reach to new markets that he hasn’t been in yet. If that wasn’t enough he just completed and released a very unique autobiography The Extraordinary Journey of Jason Miles….A Musical Biography which tells stories of his amazing associations and up close and personal working situation with many of the great artists mentioned in this bio. Miles Davis in his autobiography called him a genius. Roberta Flack has been quoted that “Jason Miles along with my friend’s Miles Davis and Marcus Miller help change the sound of modern Jazz” Chick Corea has also praised him saying “Jason Miles is a great musician” One thing is for sure Jason Miles will not sit still and will not live off the accolades and work he has done in the past.
