Description: D’ARTAGNAN BOOKS These are books in good condition. They were published by T C & E C Jack. There is no publication date inside, but I believe it was circa 1911, as the 'Pageant of London Characters' is dated 1911.I believe these books are the complete '20 parts' bound into 2 volumes. They probably pre-date the first editions. The books weigh almost 3kgs together.The first book contains the 'Pageant', and it's key. They are bound to and behind the first blank page. They are in good condition with a lot of creasing, some bumping to the edges, a couple of v.small tears and some tanning. 'Wilfred Whitten was a British writer and editor, whose pseudonym was John O'London. He worked for the Daily Mail from 1916 to 1919, then founded the magazine John O'London's Weekly, and the stories which appear in these books first appeared as articles in this magazine. Recognising that contemporary guide books didn't focus on the people living in the places they talked about, Whitten focused on the quirky stories of some of London's most famous residents and events.' These are 1st Editions. Condition: Volume 1 - Good - rubbing/bumping/wear to the corners, edges and covers, a spine lean, marking, fading and discolouration to the covers, opens v.easily to a few pages, the binding is both loose and showing through in a few places, some marking to the page edges and a couple of pages, slight discolouration/foxing to the page edges and a few pages, some darkening to the top page edges and soft even tanning to the pages. Volume 2 - Good - rubbing/bumping/wear to the corners, edges and covers, a spine lean, marking, fading and discolouration to the covers, opens v.easily to a few pages, the binding is both slightly loose and showing through in a few places, a small nick to a page edge, some marking to the page edges and a couple of pages, slight discolouration/foxing to the page edges and a few pages, some darkening to the top page edges, soft even tanning to the pages and there is an old bookseller's receipt/label bound in-between two of the index pages.
