About This Print: Here is a view of the vessel, Belle Amour, taking on a few bales of cotton at the levee beside the town of Bayou Sara. The viewer is invited to come aboard via the reflection in the cartwheel tracks and over the extended stage. The hamlet of Bayou Sara was located on the Mississippi River, just a few miles west of St. Francisville, Louisiana. It was destroyed by the flood of 1927. Today a ferry landing is all that remains to remind one of Bayou Sara. Mike, the owner of Scrimshaw Gallery, has a special connection to the area as his mother was born in St. Francisville and his grandfather was the railroad station master in Bayou Sara for many years.
