He is one of the senior artists in Angono, Rizal—The Art Capital Of The Philippines. Boy is Tondo, Manila born, he is a self-taught visual artist who started painting in 1985 when he joined the Angono Artists Association, the 2nd oldest art organization in the Art Capital, then worked with the Angono Ateliers Association to gain more experience and exposure. He was the finalist then later on bagged the 2nd Place in one of the famous TV shows in the Philippines “The TV Wonderland on-the-spot Painting Contest”. He is best known for Modern Pointillism Cubism Impressionism with mixed media (oil and acrylic) as his preferred medium— A hybrid of the styles of: Botong Francisco, Vicente Manansala, Angelito Antonio, Ang Kiukok and Hernando Ocampo that he developed. Boy Mata was also part of the book launching of “Great Themes In Philippine Art – Mother and Child” and the “The Art Collector’s Guide Book”. His artworks are usually featured in magazine publications and broadsheets in the Philippines. Also, some of his paintings were featured in coffee-table book of Manuel Duldulao’s “Century of Filipino Realism (Book 3).” Boy Mata has been in 53 solo and group art exhibitions all over the country.
