The book is in near fine condition in a near fine unclipped dustjacket, with black boards and gilt spine titles. Synopsis - The Children of Húrin, begun in 1918, was one of three ‘Great Tales’ J. R. R. Tolkien worked on throughout his life. Some of the text is familiar from extracts and references within other Tolkien books, but with the 2007 publication the entire story is presented in its complete stand-alone form for the first time. From the dustjacket: "There are tales of Middle-earth from times long before The Lord of the Rings, and the story told in this book is set in the great country that lay beyond the Grey Havens in the West: lands where Treebeard once walked, but that were drowned in the great cataclysm that ended the First Age of the World." The book is beautifully illustrated with Lee's evocative full-page color drawings and small black and white chapter head drawings. A fold-out map is included at the end of the text. Condition Details - The book has a square spine, a very tight binding, and no marks, tears, or writing. The cover has just a hint of shelfwear, no soil or stains. The textblock edges are pristine. The glossy dustjacket (in new, protective Brodart) has very light rubwear, no chips or tears. No unpleasant odors. I never use stock photos.
