Description: Katzbalger Sword - Windlass Katzbalger Sword - Windlass Around the 16th century From the 14th century onwards, Swiss pikemen established themselves as dominant mercenaries. But an equally courageous and robust competitor later appeared in Germany. The German Lansquenets or Landsknechts challenged Swiss superiority in an «all-out» rivalry that lasted for years. German troops were famous for their giant two-handed sword which they used to break the tips of enemy pikes. The weapon that characterizes the Lansquenets is the short sword that was used for close combat: the Katzbalger. Carried by all lansquenets, including pikemen and arquebusiers, this sword had an ornate «closed s» guard and an extra-long fluted pommel. The Katzbalger sword was certainly respectful of its Renaissance roots. Our replica is as battle-ready as the original. The beautifully rendered grip would make any Landskecht proud. The knurling on the pommel extends seamlessly into the wooden grip, and the guard is expertly spiral twisted and ends in a half-sphere. The high-carbon tempered steel blade is adorned with three channels that slightly lighten the blade. The black leather scabbard is decorated with leather bands that crisscross and knot near the throat and ends in a unique steel tip. The protector is 11 cm wide. Details: Total length: 90 cm approx.
