Kenwood KR-9050

Description: SOLD AS IS, NON WORKING. I recapped the entire preamp and power amplifier section, except for the main power supply capacitors, in anticipation of selling the unit. Some of the tuner's local power capacitors are also replaced, but don't quote me on it. the recapping is all done via Nichicon muse capacitors and other non magnetic high end audio electrolytics. Nothing but the best. This unit came to me without the end caps, so I had a custom furniture friend who normally makes $10k armoires and the like..make me a set of end caps. I matched the veneer stain to the top veneer of the unit. they are a hair less thick than the originals and that is not damage on the one end cap, it's just a bit of dirt that needs to be cleaned off.(turns out it was grey heat sink compound, you can see bit of it on the back of the one wood cheek, down at the bottom) More pictures soon. (finally, pictures! It was bit of a hassle to get it down, without dropping it or getting injured..) It has a minor power supply error in the lower voltage and this is associated with the pre-driver power supply system. There is an error on the schematic for it. the only schematic that is on the web, an error that Kenwood themselves committed. Not unusual. Happens all the time. So I parked this unit for nearly 6 years while I went on and did other things. It SHOULD be made to work fairly easily, via a competent technician. It would click on and then click off (relays would), from the power supply issue...but it's all there, all power amp transistors are fine. As is the entire preamp section working fine, and the tuner? pretty sure it is good as well. I expect the amplifier will also have to be adjusted, when it's finally up and running.. but that's normal work, for such a technical task as this sort of repair.. It's important to note that it is the mass of glue for the tuner section's local board power supply (the glue that holds down the capacitors) that seems to be known for taking out that power supply, and that is the case here. This is the one issue for this unit that is well known, when you start searching out problems with a KR-9050. Just the one issue. One of the buttons was broken off and I purchased a KR-8050 switch/button set and replaced it, but the button/cap is still a hair too long (the 8050 switch cap is longer than it's 9050 version) and will need to be cut down. I think it is the one on the far right, IIRC. it's just a few mm too long. I have over 200 pieces, and I need to thin things out... These are getting to be rare beasts.... PS, this is an absolute bear to ship. Note the shelf it is on is about 25 inches wide. That's why the cost in shipping is so high, as the cost its that high, where ensuring it's survival in said journey --is not easy or cheap. It will take a few extra days, I suspect. finding a box for it will be a real treat. Ugh. I'd make it perfect and grab the probably easy extra $1k cash for it, but I seriously don't have the time.
