Armengaud, illustrated with more than 200 fine engravings, Published by Imprimerie de Ch Lahure et cie, Paris, France, 1862, 1862 Edition, First French Edition, 1/4 Leather Book, 403 pages, This is an antique, 1862, book by Wladimir La Fite de Pellepore (1818 -- 1870), known under the pen name of Piotre Artamov. He was a Russian man of letters, French translator, and essayist. The book is an overview of Russian history and a presentation of the different regions of the Russian Empire with their cultural peculiarities, clothing, wildlife, etc. - with maps and numerous photos of landscapes, cities and buildings, portraits, uniforms, traditional costumes, historical people and artifacts. There are maps and portraits, with more than 200 engravings. Its front plate has the Arms of Russia, and the rear plate has the Imperial Crown. This book was created when Csar Alexander II had begun (1855) his reign as Tsar of Russia. The book is very legible and solid: an interesting, antique, 1862 book. The publisher was a well-known French book publisher of the 1800's. See ebay pics above for actual book. Good Minus Condition [ Covers are somewhat scratched (see pics), Cover-edges and cover-corners are somewhat worn and bumped, Spine-covering is missing almost 2 inches at mid-lower spine (see pics), spine-ends are worn esp at their edges, hinges are intact-but-somewhat-fragile, text is lightly foxed throughout (mainly at outer perimeters of pages), top of 3rd page has name of former owner, there is a water stain on the last 2 pages (see pic; it has left a stain on the last 150 pages of the book - becoming less noticeable with distance); otherwise, text is easily readable, no unpleasant scent, solid, completely well-bound with all its pages, strongly printed, and beautifully illustrated with 200 + sharp antique engravings] 403 pages, Huge Book: approx. 15" x 11.25" x 1.75", marbleized brown boards with leather spine and corner-tips, 5 raised bands on spine, gilt titles, front and rear endpapers with marbleized brown decorations, all paper edges marbleized brown, 1/4 Leather Book Welcome international ebay shoppers.
