Description: This mask was carved of wood, likely in West Africa by the Guro (or Gouro) Tribe. It is larger, and even more impressive, than the photos might indicate! The mask measures approximately 16 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches across the back and extends out about 4 inches. A wire has been installed on the back to allow the mask to be easily hung. Any spots in the photos are just camera flash glare. The mask does not appear to be marked. Overall and other than as noted, this mask is in good condition with no noticeable damage or problems. There is a small piece of wood on the back that appears to have broken off. This is shown -- magnified -- in the photos but obviously cannot be seen at all when the mask is hanging in place. Otherwise, there is only slight wear and the minor imperfections that would be expected on a piece of this nature. The photos provide a good indication of the condition.
