Description: c. 1890s; by B. F. Cummins Co. for J. B. Mast Co. - New York Antique cast iron initial perforating machine. This piece was initially designed to aid clerks in canceling legal documents before Cummins took his design and partnered with the USPOD (United States Post Office Department) to use his machines to perforate initials on stamps. Machines based on this (and even salvaged Cummins machines) were later used to emboss leather and other goods. Tested and works.
