Description: Le Tragique Destin De Nicolas II by Pierre Gilliard-Pub. Payot Co Paris-1921 1st EditionFrench Language Giliard was the French language tutor to the Romanov children and friend and confidante to the Tsar and Tsarina. He was part of the royal household from before the revolution to their tragic end. He also served as de facto photographer and many of the pictures you see of them were from his camera, though some were shot by Tsar Nicolas himself. The camera resides in a museum in Paris today. This French language book is a first hand account of those fateful and tragic days spent with a family he had grown to love. He somehow managed to escape their fate and eventually land in Switzerland with his camera, photos and memories of his adopted Imperial family. This First Edition differs from the 1922 edition in quality. The marbled boards are of a higher quality and have survived bright and intact. The problem of the loose page was caused by the inclusion of a gray heavy paper extra title page and an ad filled page of the same material in back. These two odd pages were also used as the front and back covers of the softcover edition.A great relic of the most tragic episode in Twentieth Century European royal history. (bookshelf)
