They are simple but engaging and super fun for the kids. They are very portable and durable to go on car trips. These LeapPad systems are made for kids 2-10 years old. This is the #1 kid's learning tablet. There are hundreds of educational games that can be used with this system. It is one of the longest running educational systems out there. They are virtually indestructible and keep your kids hands and minds busy while saving your phone the wear and tear. These are just as good as an iPad for your child and are actually better because they are tailored to your child for their learning with all of the educational games available; all without taking the chance of breaking an expensive iPad. Little kids do not need the internet. These systems are also easy for parents to learn and manage. This system will keep your child learning and occupied for hours. These tablets help a lot with learning, preparing for kindergarten, and enhancing home schooling. It will be ready to set up and play immediately when you get it - except you will have to buy batteries. This LeapPad 2 uses 4 regular "AA" batteries. The "AA" batteries last a long time in these little tablets. You can also buy rechargeable LeapPad 2 battery packs. These battery packs have internal charge protection and can be left in the LeapPad when charging. I usually have a set of used battery packs for sale for $20, or $30 rebuilt, that I test to hold a charge for at least 3 hours. They normally last for 9 hours when brand new, or rebuilt, - at least that is what the manufacturer says - my experience was 5-6 hours of solid play. I also sell "rebuilt" battery packs. I remove the old rechargeable cells from the pack casings and replace them with brand new rechargeable cells that hold even more charge than the originals. I usually charge $30 for these rebuilt rechargeable battery packs. The beauty of the LeapPad 2 rechargeable battery packs is you can leave the batteries right in the LeapPad 2 and plug the LeapPad into a wall outlet using a LeapPad 2 AC charger cord. I usually have a used AC charger for sale for $15. You will need the AC charger with the rechargeable battery packs in order for them to charge. The AC charger cord will not work with normal rechargeable batteries - the battery packs have connectors and charge limiters that allow the packs to stay in the LeapPad during charging. The LeapPad USB cord DOES NOT act as a charger. It is only for connecting your LeapPad to a computer to access LeapFrog Connect - an online app store and that has updates for your LeapPad.
