Description: Item Description: This Hopi silver bolo tie has been beautifully crafted by well known Hopi artist Leroy Kewanyama. It is signed with his triangular Star Priest hallmark and the Hopi Silvercraft Guild Sun Face Hallmark on either side of the clasp. The Mudface Kachina has expertly chiselled details with turquoise and coral chip inlay in thick silver. The clasp has the old Bennett Pat. Pend C-31 stamp which dates this bolo to sometime between the mid 50s to the early 70s. The bolo is 3 1/2" tall. It weighs 42.7 grams or 1.37 ounces. The bolo has a rich silver patina from age and is in great vintage condition.Leroy Kewanyama (1922-1997) was born at Shungopavi Village, Second Mesa, on the Hopi Reservation. He made a career of carving Katsina dolls and painting images of Katsina dances. He also made jewelry in the Hopi silver overlay style.Works by Leroy C.
