Description: Limoges Elite Bawo Dotter 6 Salad Plates 7 3/8" Blue Floral Embossed 1891-1900 Elegant Hand Decorated Set of 6 SALAD PLATES 7 3/8" from ELITE WORKS (Bawo & Dotter) Limoges, France, GARLAND & CENTER Spray of Blue Flowers w/ Green LEAVES, Scalloped Embossed Rim w/NO Trim, circa 1891-1900 DESCRIPTION: The decorative set of 6 salad plates was manufactured, designed, and decorated in the Elite Works Studio. The designer of the decoration was most talented and the overall quality of the design is quite professional. The undecorated rim accents the scalloping and embossing. There is a garland composed of blue flowers, green leaves & brown stems. The center medallion consists of a spray of the blue flowers. See the photos where we give you a full frontal of each plate and several close-ups. CONDITION: While this decorative set of 6 salad plates is classified as used, its condition is superb. The only issue is a very tiny flake on the back of 2 plates. See photos #16, #18, and #19. There are no chips, other nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. Overall, the color is as applied. See the photos. DIMENSIONS: The plates have a diameter of 7 3/8" and a height of 7/8". HISTORY/MARKS: In the 1860’s, Bawo & Dotter was established in New York City for the purpose of importing china, especially Limoges porcelain. The firm established its own decorating studio in Limoges, France in the early 1870’s named The Elite Works. Bawo & Dotter began manufacturing its own china in 1896 in Limoges. The red mark on this set is the overglaze decorating mark #8 (Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition by Mary Frank Gaston) which was used 1891-1900.
