Description: Limoges T&V 9 1/2" Cabinet Plate Hand Painted Red Currants Leaves Gold 1892-1907 Elegant Decorative T&V (Tressemann & Vogt) Fine China 9 1/2" CABINET PLATE, Striking Hand Painted & Initialed by a Talented Artist NRA, RED CURRANTS & Green Leaves, Smooth Rim, BOLD GOLD SCROLLWORK, Thin Gold Trim on Rim, circa 1892-1907 from Limoges, France DESCRIPTION: This superb quality china has colors that are bright & realistic. This was hand painted by a talented artist, NRA, on a blank of fine white china which has a wash that changes from orange to light green to blue as you look across the plate. The painting with the leaves, currants, and stems was applied first, then the gold scrollwork was applied to highlight the swirls of the painting. This is exceptionally well done. CONDITION: While this plate is classified as used, the condition is superb. We find no nicks, chips, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. There appears to be absolutely no wear to the colors or gold and no crazing. Look in the photos to see this. DIMENSIONS: The plate has a diameter of 9 1/2" with a height of 1". HISTORY/MARKS: Begun in the 1850's, Vogt & Dose became Tressemann & Vogt when Emillien Tressemann joined the company in 1882. This was essentially a decorating studio which began manufacturing their own china in 1891 in Limoges, France. The company continued until it was dissolved due to the retirement of Tressemann in 1907. From 1907-1919, the company operated as Porcelain Gustave Vogt under the direction of Gustave Vogt, John Vogt's son, and continued to use the T&V mark. T&V is well known for its quality whiteware and boldly decorated hand paintings. The marks used on this item are the manufacturers underglaze mark in green referenced in Mary Frank Gaston's Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition as mark #5a used 1892-1907. The artist's initials, in gold, are visible in just above the brown stem and the green currents in the photo #4. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
