Description: Rare signed and personalized book by Stefan Lorant: LINCOLN A Picture Story Of his Life dated 1952, Published by Harper & Bros. N.Y., lithographs by Murray Printing Co. Book contains over 500 rare and historical photographs, including all known photographs of Lincoln as of 1952. Interesting note: The author Lorant was an immigrant suffering in Germany in a concentration camp 12 years before he came to the United States. It was by luck that two other prisoners were walking past each cell ordered to pass out books to other prisoners. Lorant picked out an old volume containing Lincoln's speeches translated in German...and so began his journey through photographs and historical accounts of the extraordinary life of Abraham Lincoln. From hunting down unknown photographs of Lincoln to personal letters written to Lincoln..Lorant spent 10 years chasing down leads..from photographs to collections of letters and correspondence. Beginning with a photo of the log cabin his father Thomas Lincoln and wife Nancy Hanks were married in.... the history of President Lincoln's life begins. Born Feb.12,1809 while Thomas Jefferson was still in office and only three days later James Madison was elected President. The book is a full scale pictorial of Lincoln's life and death. 256 pages with index. Book is in good condition. Has some moisture spots to the cover's spine from attic storage.Cover has some wear and tear and light moisture stains but is intact and remains fairly attractive. Book itself is a gem...from Infancy, boyhood, the law firm, the Senate, his marriage, the Presidency, the Civil War and his assignation at Ford's Theater..it remains a must have book for every person who loves and respects Abraham Lincoln. For me..just his name sends me over the edge. The book is autographed and was a gift to "Dr. Frederick R. Bailey with best regards and most sincerely Stephan Lorant"..that in itself is one step closer to my interest and fascination with Lincoln..an ordinary man who became a legend..changing the course of history. Book is in good condition. Some foxing and tears as I have stated around the cover and edges and a couple pages including the cover have have fox stains on the binding edge. No ripped, tears, writing or missing pages. Spine itself is very good, and remains fairly strong with no loose pages.
