Billing Antiques is a subsidiary of Chantry Fine Art. William P Caton Woodville b1884 'Little Women and Good Wives' This fine drawing is from the archive of Messrs Dean and Sons of London. Dean's were amongst the most prominent children book publishers of the 20th century and their authors included Mabel Lucie Attwell, Enid Blyton, Walt Disney and many others. Their artists included Attwell herself and her daughter, Walt Disney, Dudley Tennant and a host of others. This gouache watercolour is the frontis page for 'Little Women and Good Wives' by Louisa M Alcott and was drawn by the very famous artist William P Caton Woodville. It is un-signed. It dates from circa 1935. William P Caton Woodville was the son of Richard Caton Woodville the famous military painter and illustrator. William was born in 1884 and studied at Herkomers, Bushey. He exhibited mainly between 1904-1929 including RA 6, ROI 2, B6, L11. The picture is in very good condition and mounted under card. The picture size is 35cm x 22cm.
