Description: Mario Vargas Llosa. "LOS JEFES." Editorial Rocas. Barcelona (1959) First edition. One of only 500 copies printed. (132pp) (4 3/4" x 7") Exceedingly rare with the pictorial wrap-around band presenting a photographic image of the earnest looking young author sporting a pencil mustache in suit and tie. The band asserts he is the winner of the Premio "Leopoldo Alas" Prize. Close to fine in trade-size paperback wrappers. (Faint foxing at top edge and a stamp on title page which nearly all surviving copies have owing to the book's publishers, a consortium of doctors, placing it in their waiting rooms for patient's to peruse.) Llosa's FIRST book, a collection of stories, published in Spain while he was living there. The Peruvian author has had an illustrious career culminating in being awarded the Nobel Prize for literature.
