We test for basic running and lights, then describe our results. We feel we're adept at judging the running quality of a locomotive and the extent of running wear that's externally visible, but we do not disassemble locomotives to examine internal components, nor do we perform service, lube or repairs. You should assume that the internal components of all powered locos will have wear and require servicing and possibly repair. If a loco runs sub-par in our test, we'll describe it and offer it as-is.
