Bound in publisher's sapphire blue cloth boards with beveled edges; interlaced gilt and black ornamentation and banding to spine and front board. Textblock edges gilt. Tan and white floral endpapers. Xvi pp prelim material, 411 numbered pp, plus five blank; 19 additional leaves with full page b&w plates. Preface (by Irish dramatist John Brougham and John Elderkin); toc, list of illus; 32 entries, including contributions from Lotos Club members, including Mark Twain ("An Encounter with an Interviewer"), Alfred Lord Tennyson, Wilkie Collins, and many more. Many full page and half page illus. Condition notes: a worn but solid copy of a lovely volume; general wear and rubbing to boards, spine ends rolled and worn, corners bumped; nice color retention to blue/gilt lettering, ornamentation, and gilt edges. Rear board has suffered a shallow half inch gash. Lacks dj, perhaps issued without. Interior free of markings; flawed by three inch tear to tail of ffep; binding separating behind endpapers with fabric showing; pages generally toned with an occasional fox track. The Lotos Club was an early New York literary club, and remains in existence. This volume is a joy to behold - and hold. We personally inspect every book we offer.
