Description: This is a very rare and cool collectible. This is a bust of Lyndon B. Johnson. This is a miniaturized copy of a bust Johnson had made in 1966. The sculptor was Jimilu Mason. Johnson liked the work and had the miniaturized versions made up to use a presidential VIP gifts. These were actually a pretty scarce item as LBJ gave these out personally. The most famous recipient of a LBJ bust was none other than Pope Paul V. Johnson stopped by the Vatican during his whirl wind world tour in 1967. There was an exchange of gifts and the Pope gave Johnson (and the people of the USA) a rare oil painting from the 15th Century — a Nativity scene featuring the Virgin Mary, Joseph, and the newborn baby Jesus being watched over by angels. Johnson, on the other hand, gave these Pontiff a bust of himself. The moment was captured and the “WTF” expression on the Pope’s face says it all. Johnson appears to be thinking that his gift was the greatest thing in the world! The bust is in excellent condition and there are no dings or chips. It’s pretty hefty and the ~ 9 inch bust weighs just over 4 lbs.
