Description: MAGNIFICENT MAINE PASSAMAQUODDY BLACK ASH SPLINT & BRAIDED SWEETGRASS BASKET, MINT! Not easy finding these antique Maine Indian baskets in this pristine condition. Orange aniline dye is intense inside and has a perfect patina outside on top. The use of braided sweetgrass throughout is a distinguishing feature of the earliest type. These baskets were made in the interior region of Maine then brought to the coast to sell to tourists during the summer. The Abbe Museum in Bar Harbor, Maine is a particularly great place to visit and understand the history of this trade.Measures approximately 2.5” x 7.5” x 10”. Circa 1920.
