Would make a great gift for a special occasion, or keep for yourself! This map will not last long. Don’t wait too long and then regret not getting this map for your collection. This map was originally put out in 1671. Captures the area of what is currently Mexico and the rest of Central America, plus certain islands that Spain held at that time in the Caribbean. Cannot say if this is an original strike map or not. You be the judge. The map was originally done by the cartographer Arnoldus Montanus, published by John Ogilby. The map was hand colored at some juncture in the past. This fine antique map is being offered to you at a price below what you would see in a fine gallery or auction house. We can do that by being a dealer in artwork for over 40 years, better controlling our acquisition costs, keeping commission costs low (if applicable). Finally, we don't have the overhead that fine galleries or auction houses have. The map has not been examined out of the frame. The map has crease fold down the center of the map. This appears to be the original fold line from our research. No tears or repairs that we can ascertain. Some very minor foxing the map paper going on, see pics. The map is framed in a gold colored frame with embossed detailing. Some minor finish loss to the frame. Backing paper is in place as is the hanging wire. The glass is intact, no cracks or blistering. No certificate of authenticity comes with this piece. We cannot say with certainly that this is an original piece, or just an older reprinting. You be the judge as to whether this piece is original or not before acquiring. You or your agent are certainly welcome to stop by to see the map in person as well. The Framed Antique Map in Frame is 18-5/8" tall, by 21-1/8" across, by 1" wide. The map showing within the matting is 11-5/8" tall by 14-3/16" across.
