Description: Rawlings, Marjorie Kinnan - The Yearling - Charles Scribner’s Sons: New York, 1938 - First Edition / First Printing / First Issue Dust Jacket - Both the Scribner’s seal and the letter “A” present on the copyright page as required in order to denote the first printing of the first edition. First issue dust jacket with “$2.50” price and the correct front panel. “He lay down on his pallet and drew the fawn down beside him. He often lay so with it in the shed, or under the live oaks in the heat of the day. He lay with his head against its side. its ribs lifted and fell with its breathing. It rested its chin on his hand. It had a few short hairs there that prickled him. He had been cudgeling his wits for an excuse to bring the fawn inside at night to sleep with him, and now he had one that could not be disputed. He would smuggle it in and out as long as possible, in the name of peace.” The book has soiling, rubbing, and damp damage to two corners which extend to the block. The gutters have the typical binders glue stains but they aren’t as dark as many other copies. The boards remain mostly straight and the green lettering and design elements on the front and spine remain bright. The binding is square and firm. The dust jacket is sunned, soiled, and edge worn with some shallow nibbles along the edges. Overall a bright and presentable example with the correct price and front panel. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize. Basis for the rather good 1946 film adaptation of the same title which starred Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman. This film would be nominated for seven Academy Awards (including best picture, actor, and actress) and would go on to win two Oscars. All books are offered with a full 30 day postage paid return policy. All books which are in dust jackets will be mailed with a clear archival dust jacket protector fitted. Shipping costs can be combined if multiple purchases are made. Items will be packaged and shipped within one business day unless otherwise noted.
