Description: Maxfield Parrish’s “Summer” - Original Double-Matted (Green inner, textured ecru outer) and Period-Framed Color Illustration (facing page 110) from F. T. Palgrave’s 1911 First Edition of ‘Golden Treasury Of Songs And Lyrics’. The image measures 7 1/8”x 4 7/8”. The repurposed frame is an early 1920’s photo frame; I thought it worked very well. Outermost frame dimensions are 11 1/4”x 9”. Parrish signature (MP) bottom left corner (photo #x). It is backed with 2-ply acid-free museum rag board with new hardware and dustcover installed August, 2024 and ready to hang. A truly elegant piece. ‘Summer’ was originally painted for, and appeared as the color cover of the July 22, 1905 issue of Collier’s Magazine, issued as a print the same year, and finally as an illustration in the 1911 Palgrave publication (and several subsequent editions) to illustrate A. Marvell’s poem ‘Thoughts In A Garden’. The text of the poem (pages 109-111) will be included (photos 18 & 19). Quite a nice cost/size alternative to the print (Ref. Flacks, 4th, page 56, bottom, (last photo #20). Note: The first 9 photos are taken without glass to avoid reflections/glare issues, photos 11 (slight angle), 12 & 13 after completion of project. Also Note: Photos 14, 15, 16 & 17, the book itself, and tissue lining are shown for provenance only, the book is Not included; the tissue lining, along with the poem text Will be included.
