Description: Found at a local estate auction: the 1935 publication from the London Illustrated News special issue commemorating King George V's Silver Jubilee. This is a hardbound copy, although the pages have pulled loose from the binding as shown, with red cloth covers imprinted with the title in metallic silver and gold. It measures 14.5 by 10." There are 80 pages inside, with lots of royal portraits in full color and articles filled with memorabilia. The color portraits of King George V and Queen Mary would look wonderful framed! Some of the full-page portraits have silver framing in honor of the Silver Jubilee. The main portraits are protected with tissue sheets. There's also a poignant portrait of the Prince of Wales; it would be only the next year when he would become king only to abdicate. The articles include historical summaries of George V's reign and significant events in history, literature, culture, and even women's fashions. It's quite full of great memorabilia, and significant because George V died not quite a year later. This is in used condition with most of the wear confined to the covers, which are worn and bumped and faded. The bundle of pages is loose from the binding, as shown, so if you choose to remove pages it would be easy. There are some great vintage ads in the front. The interior pages have darkened a bit but are clearly legible. Altogether it's a neat survivor of its era.
