Description: Vintage Tulip Vase Third Panel Sheriffs Jury New York, Sterling Overlay Company Maker: The McKee Glass Company Item: Tulip Vase with Sterling Overlay Third Panel Sheriffs Jury, New York Circa: 1937 - 1942 Color: Crystal Satin with Silver Overlay Measurement: 8 7/8" H. - 7 1/4" W. Marks: Marked Sterling near the bottom of the Urn Decoration. The urn decoration appears on 3 sides of the vase. The fourth side of the vase has the Third Panel Jury Symbol with a Eagle on Top. The words "III Panel Sheriff's Jury" are incised into the design. Condition: Over the years, altered versions of this beautiful tulip vase have been made by many companies. This exact vase was made by The McKee Glass Company from 1937 - 1942 which dates this lovely piece. This vase is shown in Sandra Stout's book " The Complete Book of McKee Glass" on page 100. The original catalog reprint shown leaves no doubt as to who made this piece. McKee sold the vase under their name without the sterling decoration. At some point they were commissioned to make the vase for the Third Panel Sheriff's Jury. It is unclear whether McKee added the Silver Overlay. It is more likely that a decorating company added the silver. For more information about the 3rd Panel Jury please check out the brief history below. This outstanding vase is in Undamaged Condition without chips, cracks, or mold damage. The vase is marked sterling in several different places. The sterling overlay is intact and perfect. McKee's Louvre Ware (1937 - 1942 McKee designed and patented a line of glassware in the 1937 they called The Louvre Ware. This art glass line was similar to more expensive lines being sold by Lalique and Verleys. Pieces in this Louvre line were made of crystal glass. Birds, and flowers were molded in high relief to create the desired look. The outside of these pieces had a crystal satin finish. The inside of many of these pieces were fire-polished. Some pieces are found with the all-over satin finish. Pieces made in this line included partitioned and non partitioned trays, candlesticks, bowls and bon bons, a basket, a nut dish, a tulip vase, and a cigarette box. Third Panel Sheriff's Jury of New York - The Sheriff's Jury Panels were first established in England. These panels were incorporated into the New York culture as early as the mid 1600s when New York City was established. In the late 1800s, early 1900s the Sheriff in New York appointed 3 separate groups of upstanding men to serve on the Sheriff's jury panels. At one point I found reference to 250 members of the Third Panel alone. These panels were named; The First, Second and Third Sheriff's Jury panels. The sheriff appointed members from the three panels to serve on the Sheriff's Jury Panels. Large elaborate banquets were held throughout the year for the members of each of these panels. The New York Times, covered these events and even published copies of the menus from these events. Souvenir items such as cufflinks, serving dishes, Tiffany candlesticks, sterling shoe horns, badges, vases, ice buckets, picture frames, and even the menus from these events are highly collectible today. I found one reference stating that these panels were established in the 1600s. The last reference that I can find on this group is from 1979. POSTAGE AND INSURANCE ON THIS PRETTY ITEM IS CALCULATED.
