Mercer Moravian Pottery Tile Works HOLLY Clay Ornament Bucks County PA Vtg 1998

Description: Due to the increase in volume of packages being shipped through the US Postal System, shipping times have occasionally been longer than those estimated by either eBay or the USPS tracking tool. Vintage 1998 red clay tile Christmas ornament fromthe Moravian Pottery and Tile Works of Doylestown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.This is one of the official reproductions of the tiles created at the pottery back when it was overseen by its founderHenry Chapman Mercer. This tile is a sprig of holly surrounded by an eight-sided border with the word "HOLLY" impressed on the lower section of the border.The holly leaves are green, the branch is brown, and the border and holly berries are left untinted, allowingthe natural red clay to show through the clear, glossy glaze. This has a small hole at the top of the tile, allowing it to be hung as an ornament. Impressed marks on the back shown in photos #5 and #6. Used as an ornament on a Christmas tree for years.This has some crazing of the clear glaze, which is notunusual for these pottery tiles. Tried to capture examples of this inphotos #10 and #11 (also visible in other close-up photos).The clear glaze has been applied more thinly in some spots.There are voids in the clay on the front surface of the ornament. The largest is on the upper left area of the border (shown in photos #12, #13, and #14), the second largest is onthe lowest holly leaf on the right-hand side of the sprig(visible in photo #1 and in close up in photo #15).There are two very small nips on the sides of the tile - one atthe lower right-hand side where that side meets the front edge (shown in photos #16, #17, and #18), and thesecond is on the upper left side at the rear of the ornament(shown in photos #19, #20, and #21).
