Description: Pre-owned and most likely only displayed in a closed cabinet by the previous collector, this unusual pristine cup and saucer set is ready to join your unique collection. This sweetly unique Teacup/Demitasse Coffee Cup and Saucer Set made during post WWII Occupied Japan by S.G.K. in 3D relief with beautifully detailed hand painted scenes of children, mermaids, mer-lads, and one dog on land and in the sea, wonderfully depicted in rich colors with golden colored details. Check measurements provided, but I believe this would be a nice size for children who ready to experience a doll “tea party”with possibly priceless and very special items… but also possibly suitable for tea party display with larger dolls like Patty PlayPal or similar sized dolls. I believer this would be an ideal accessory tea party cup and saucer for the large dolls in the Annette Himstedt Atlantis collection. THE SAUCER shows a scene of children and youth draped partially in cloth on the land. THE CUP shows an aquatic scene with mermaid, mer-lads, water babies and children, possibly putti, playing. One child is playing with a dog, while others appear to be playing instruments. One ingenious child appears to be flying. These scenes provide many story building opportunities. The scenes on both the cup and the saucer are hand painted, with the interior of the cup and center of the saucer having a fancy most likely stamped / printed design. The bases of both cup and saucer are marked under the glaze with the company name: S.G.K., the company’s sweet floral basket logo and the words: Hand Painted Occupied Japan, which places its production between 1945-1952. This set is in excellent vintage pre-collected pre-displayed condition, with no breaks discovered. There is what I believe is most likely a factory flaw on the rim of the cup which is rough compared to other edges, as seen in photo. Please zoom in; I think you’ll agree with me it’s rather insignificant but I want to make sure you’re aware of it before making your purchase.
