Description: Stunning Mess Dress Uniform for a Brigadier of the Rifle Brigade, named to Major C. Bullock dated 11.4.78. Rifle Brigade mess dress based on the 1902 pattern. It is of rifle green (several photos appear black, but the uniform is a very dark green), with a two-inch stand collar, five waved loops of black cord in front with five rows of knitted olivettes. Chest size estimate is 39". Black overall trousers with a two-inch braid stripe. Decorative waistcoat with red and black edging as according to the regulation changes in 1969. Waistcoat and mess jacket made by Welsh & Jefferies Ltd., Savile Row, both named to Major C. Bullock. The jacket has rank of brigadier with ERII Aide de Camp badges. One rank pip is missing. Excellent condition. The regulation trousers are made by the Hong Kong tailor Ah Lee of Kowloon. Brigadier Christopher Bullock was from a military family. His father served in the navy in WWII, was wounded and paralyzed from the waist down. His uncle served in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps. Bullock attended Sandhurst and was commissioned to the Kings Royal Rifle Corps. He was stationed in Northern Borneo (now Malaysia) and was active with Gurkha troops in trying to stop the communist incursion. From Platoon Commander to Company Commander, he was in charge of 120 men, carrying out secret operations and attacks on camps. In 1965, he was presented the Military Cross by Queen Elizabeth. He saw further service in Singapore and was in Commanding Officer of the 6th Battalion of Gurkhas in the U.K. He served with Operations Staff Planning for the Falklands campaign. In 1982, he was awarded the OBE by the Queen at Buckingham Palace. In 1990, he was promoted to Brigadier of the Ghurkas, and served in Hong Kong. Bullock retired from the army in 1993. He was active with the Ghurkas Museum and has written a book titled Britain’s Ghurkas and one titled Journeys Hazardous, on his clandestine operations in Borneo. Brigadier Bullock’s papers are at the Imperial War Museum.
