Description: Messageries Maritimes - A fold-out (24" by 30") tissue deck plan for LA MARSEILLAISE. Six decks are shown in color-coded detail. The run-of-the-ship went to First Class with public rooms on four different decks. Passengers in the grander cabins on C Deck also got verandahs with openings cut into the hull a la QUEEN MARY 2. The only other class shown, Tourist was allocated just a few cabins on B Deck along with a tight Dining Salon next and a postage stamp-sized Smoking Room out near the stern on E Deck (decks were lettered in reverse with A on the bottom and F up top). The back side of the plan is filled with b&w photos. Besides a portrait-at-sea, views show all First Class spaces: Lounge, Dining Salon, Card Room, Stairway, a cabin with balcony, Terrace Cafe, Writing Room, and the deluxe "Provence" suite. There is lots of shiny veneers, stylish wrought iron railings, and Indo-Chinese decor themes. The liner sailed but a short time for Messageries Maritimes before being sold to Arosa Line and shortly thereafter to Costa. Renamed BIANCA C, Costa put the liner into cruise service. Brochures of the era show that Costa cherished and saved LA MARSEILLAISE's interiors. That is, until an engine room explosion in October 1961 set off an uncontrollable fire. The passengers and all but one crew member were saved, but the ship went down. Today it is a popular dive spot off Grenada. Good condition with a little separation along a few folds.
