Description: the jnr class eh10 originated in the mid 1950s, conceived as a permanently joined, two engine 8 axled locomotive capable of handling the steepest grades on japan's newly electrified main lines......64 eh10s were built between 1954 and 1956 by hitachi, mitsubishi, and kawasaki........the eh10 initially handled both freight and passenger service; however, as passenger traffic increased geometrically with the urbanization of post war japan, greater speed was required on the passenger routes, and the eh10 - nicknamed the "mammoth" - was reserved for heavy freight duties......the "mammoth" survived in service until the early 1980s when replacement by higher speed permanently linked locomotives like the eh200, eh500, and recently the eh800 dictated its obsolescence..... i acquired this eh10 from a general reseller who openly professes his lack of model railroading expertise; he does sell a large offering of previously owned fishing reels and cameras, however.......upon arrival, the a0820 presented an unblemished exterior, albeit with a slight discoloration from oxidation of the wheel sets........i treated the discoloration with mineral spirits prior to the test run, which revealed 28% on the rheostat for n scale factored operating speed and somewhat vibrant head lamps considering the pre chip led technology of the engineering configuration.....a patina of oxidation remains on the wheel sets which is probably best ameliorated by regular operation..... the jewel case did have an old store price tag and 2 pieces of scotch tape visible......."goo gone" easily eradicated any remnants of the price tag........however, the the scotch tape adhesive remained after its covering film was dislodged and even proved resistant to that best aforementioned residue remover.......i left those adhesive scars rather than risk damage to the case itself...... microace has released the eh10 multiple times in 2 versions - one set of models had both of the tandem locomotives motorized; the other set of models had one locomotive powered and one trailer.......the a0820 is one of the latter versions - only one of the tandem locomotives is motorized..... the set has no accessories......
