Description: [zipedit] Microsoft Windows ME / Millennium Edition Upgrade (CD-ROM) This is a CD-ROM disc containing a computer operating system named Windows ME, which stands for Windows Millennium Edition. It was released in 2000 as the home counterpart of Windows 2000, despite using the Windows 9x kernel instead of Windows 2000's NT kernel. Plus, Windows ME was the final computer operating system to use the Windows 9x kernel and feature MS-DOS support. For many years, this Windows operating system has been used by various computer users around the world. To this day, it's still used by computer enthusiasts for a variety of retro purposes. It was unique for introducing System Restore, Windows Movie Maker, and more. Although this operating system was designed to bring in new possibilities of home computing for the third millennium, this was technically the final Microsoft computer operating system of the second millennium and the 20th century as both the third millennium and the 21st century did not actually begin until January 2001.As a bonus, this CD-ROM also features the 2000 version of Microsoft Interactive CD Sampler (also considered the last version of it ever made) and several demo/trial versions of PC games, such as Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings, Motocross Madness, and The Magic School Bus Explores the World of Animals. It also comes with installation software for the MSN Gaming Zone (designed for online play of classic Microsoft games), which is obsolete due to the fact its CD-ROM service was discontinued in 2006, so, although it cannot be used anymore, it looks pretty nostalgic. The 2000 version of Microsoft Interactive CD Sampler contains previews for various classic Microsoft software programs such as Picture It! 2000, Works Suite 2000, Hallmark Greetings 2000, Encarta Reference Suite 2000, and more. There are also trailers for Microsoft PC games of the time such as Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000, Microsoft International Soccer 2000 (note that somehow, the title for the UK version, Microsoft International Football 2000, as well as the trailer for it were used in the US sampler software), NBA Drive Inside 2000, Pinball Arcade, and some educational PC games based on the classic 1990s children's TV series, The Magic School Bus. Additionally, previews for Microsoft hardware (the IntelliMouse Explorer and various SideWinder video game accessories) are available to watch. Most of the featured products are from 1999.Other classic Microsoft products described in the 2000 version of the Interactive CD Sampler are Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia Deluxe 2000, Monster Truck Madness 2, Motocross Madness, Midtown Madness, Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator: WWII Europe Series, the Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite, the Microsoft Mouse Line, and more. The disc comes in its original jewel case, with its official back cover. For some reason, there is no official jewel case front cover artwork in existence. The front of the jewel case has a short crack on it. Otherwise, everything is in very good condition. The disc has been tested on an HP Vectra VL 6/400 Series 8 DT PC with Windows 98 SE and a custom-built Windows 10 Home desktop PC.If you are looking for a Windows ME installation method or the 2000 / final counterpart of the Interactive CD Sampler software, or even intending to relive the excitement of both of them, this is the classic CD-ROM for you. Please note: This is the Upgrade release of Windows ME (Millennium Edition). In order to use it for the Windows ME operating system installation process, you will need a Windows ME boot floppy disk as well as an actual Windows 95 or Windows 98 PC or a Windows 95 or Windows 98 virtual machine in an OS emulator like Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 or 2007, Oracle VM VirtualBox or VMware. This OS contains one sample music track that can be played in the default Windows Media Player 7 software:• Beck - Beautiful Way (30-second sample version) (Alternative, Country, and Soul)There are also some default MIDI sequences to be played in Windows Media Player, which were included only on the OS disc for speaker testing purposes (a technique Microsoft has been doing for their Windows operating systems since the year 2000):1. Flourish 2. One Stop 3. Town There are several default PC games to play: 1. FreeCell 2. Hearts 3. Internet Backgammon 4. Internet Checkers 5. Internet Hearts 6. Internet Reversi 7. Internet Spades 8. Minesweeper 9. Pinball (3D Pinball: Space Cadet) (A demo/trial version of Maxis' Full Tilt! Pinball previously featured in Microsoft Plus! Companion for Windows 95, as well as Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 2000. It was also included on Windows XP. A re-release of this game counterpart for Windows 10 and Windows 11 eventually came out in October 2022 and can be downloaded from the official Microsoft website. Therefore, this classic game can still be played by using various methods to this day.) 10. Spider Solitaire 11. SolitairePlease note: All the default Internet games were MSN Gaming Zone-based, and they may not work anymore since sadly, Microsoft shut their original online play servers down in 2019.The default web browser is Internet Explorer 5, and the default e-mail client is Outlook Express 5.Windows Movie Maker 1.0, an amateur video editing program, can be used to create and edit videos on Windows ME. A 30-second-long Windows Movie Maker 1.0 sample video file featuring a little boy playing at a park and its playground is available to watch on this OS.For those who don't know, there is an option that allows extra content such as desktop themes and their screensavers reused from Microsoft Plus! Companion for Windows 95 and Microsoft Plus! for Kids to be installed during the Windows ME setup process. The following additional desktop themes and their screensavers are:Desktop Themes:Baseball (256 color)Dangerous Creatures (256 color)Inside Your Computer (high color)Leonardo da Vinci (256 color)Jungle (256 color)Mystery (high color)Nature (high color)Science (256 color)The 60s USA (256 color)The Golden Era (high color)Space (high color)Sports (256 color)Travel (high color)Underwater (high color)Screensavers:Baseball (256 color)Dangerous Creatures (256 color)Inside Your Computer (high color)Leonardo da Vinci (256 color)Jungle (256 color)Mystery (high color)Nature (high color)Science (256 color)The 60s USA (256 color)The Golden Era (high color)Space (high color)Sports (256 color)Travel (high color)Underwater (high color)This CD-ROM is an amazing piece of history to have since it is a very nifty look at what Microsoft Windows operating systems used to be like back in the day. While this Windows operating system was infamous for being criticized for some issues during its time, it is truly unique to the point where it has major nostalgia value nevertheless because somehow, some users have been able to experience it flawlessly over the years, including myself. This product is also an excellent reminder of what the industries of computers, Internet, hardware, software, and television were like almost a quarter of a century ago, so it will bring you back to the truly golden years of Microsoft and Windows. Everything on this CD-ROM is worth reliving comparing to today's truly unacceptable nonsense related to Microsoft, Windows, and more. I accept PayPal.
