Description: This wonderful lithograph was produced in 1856 as part of the Reports of Exploration and Surveys to Ascertain the Most Practical and Economical Route for the Railroad from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Coast made under the direction of the Secretary of War and published by Sarony, Major and Knapp (Washington D. C. 1856). The scene is described as being Isaac Stevens distributing goods to the Grose Ventres on the banks of the Milk River in Montana in August, 1853. The image size is 10" x 7". The framed and matted work is 15" by 12". The matte mounting is not archival and there is a little paint loss on the frame here and there but the print has no foxed spots and no obvious toning.
