Mintons was a major company in Staffordshire pottery, "Europe's leading ceramic factory during the Victorian era", an independent business from 1793 to 1968 It was a leader in ceramic design, working in a number of different ceramic bodies, decorative techniques, and "a glorious pot-pourri of styles - Rococo shapes with Oriental motifs, Classical shapes with Medieval designs and Art Nouveau borders were among the many wonderful concoctions". As well as pottery vessels and sculptures, the firm was a leading manufacturer of tiles and other architectural ceramics, producing work for both the Houses of Parliament and United States of America Capitol Building.The family continued to control the business until the mid-20th century. Mintons had the usual Staffordshire variety of company and trading names over the years, and the products of all periods are generally referred to as either "Minton", as in "Minton china", or "Mintons", the mark used on many. Mintons Ltd was the company name from 1879 onwards.The main factory on London Road, Stoke-on-Trent was demolished in the 1990s, and the other factory, including office accommodation and a Minton Museum, was demolished in 2002 as part of rationalization within the Royal Doulton group. Haddon Hall is an English Medieval Manor House built by the river Wye near Bakewell Derbyshire and is the seat of the Dukes of Rutland. The origins of the hall date from the 11th century, with additions at various stages between the 13th and the 17th century, the latter was in the Tudor style. Presently it is the home of Lord & Lady Edward Manners whom are painstakingly restoring "The Hall" to its former glory, and is open to the public. The Haddon Hall Pattern was designed by John Wadsworth [1879- 1955]. These pieces were made at the Minton Pottery Works on London Rd, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire. England The distinctive decorative pattern is inspired by tapestry's hanging behind the high table & bench within the banqueting hall. Haddon Hall china was first produced in 1938 and production halted because of, too expensive and with the on set of WW II. When production re-commenced in late 1947, John Wadsworth's signature was added to the MINTONS understamp 1949 -1951. [Globe] A new MINTON crest was created towards the end of 1951 with John Wadsworth signature and of which is still in use to the present day.... MINTON merged with Royal Doulton in 1968. From 2005 onwards, all of the Minton, Royal Albert, Beswick to name a few company's acquired by Royal Doulton, their products are in full production in Indonesia and India.
