The book has extensive clinically relevant information and is so well organized that it should provide support for practicing healthcare professionals throughout their career. This edition has an expanded introductory chapter on systemic anatomy, with significantly improved coverage of the autonomic nervous system, a complicated area that new students often have particular difficulty with. The use of clinical "Blue Boxes" has expanded with descriptions of pathology, injuries, and clinical procedures that are relevant to the anatomy being discussed. These blue boxes are one of the longtime highlights and strengths of the book which have been increased in number and strengthened with illustrations. Summaries called the "Bottom Line" have been added that at times are useful take home messages, though occasionally the sentences end up being lengthy and a bit run-on. Students will most likely find these useful when reviewing material prior to exams. The number of illustrations now rivals some anatomy atlases. Many of the illustrations will be very useful to both readers and teachers because they efficiently drive home key points or relationships that are clinically relevant. Some embryology has been added, which is very useful. With this fifth edition, Clinically Oriented Anatomy, the gold standard North American human anatomy text has risen substantially in value. The authors are to be congratulated on this superb anatomical text that is ideally suited to learning and teaching human anatomy for healthcare providers." Weighted Numerical Score: 98 - 5 Stars, This book is the most complete anatomy book for medical students. I am doing a systems-based approach, and in my course the clinical application is emphasised from the outset. The book strikes the balance between giving the detail of pure & descriptive anatomy (needed to truly visualise the gross anatomy of the human body) without the prose-like verse of classical anatomy texts. The clinical orientation of this text allows you to see why you need to understand the anatomy, and practically apply the knowledge in the clinical setting. The writing style is easy to read, and not as prose-like as some other texts (eg Grays). Ideal. With the synopses (bottom line) and highlighting of words it is now more a study-friendly than reference text. The blue boxes are perfectly pitched to students studying anatomy to allow them to see how to apply the knowledge. There is a reason though that Clinically Oriented Anatomy is the best-seller. It is the best. I would recommend this to any Med student as an essential buy.Kevin McCarthy, University College DublinTable of Content1.Thorax 2.Abdomen 3.Pelvis and Perineum 4.Back 5.Lower Limb 6.Upper Limb 7.Head 8.Neck 9.Summary of Cranial NervesCopyright Date2006Target AudienceScholarly & ProfessionalTopicAllied Health Services / General, Life Sciences / Human Anatomy & Physiology, General, Life Sciences / Anatomy & Physiology (See Also Life Sciences / Human Anatomy & Physiology), Allied Health Services / Physical TherapyLccn2004-028886Dewey Decimal612Dewey Edition23IllustratedYesGenreScience, Medical
