Description: MZ Moritz Zdekauer Creamer Sugar Lid Pink Blue Flowers Gold Artist Richards 1916 An Exquisite Fancy Decorative CREAMER & COVERED SUGAR from Altrohlau Porcelain Factories-MZ Moritz Zdekauer, Austria, PINK & BLUE FLOWERS w/GREEN LEAVES with WIDE GOLD Trim, Hand Painted ARTIST Signed A. Richards 1916 DESCRIPTION: This set is most striking with its wide gold rims and solid gold handles. The pastel pink & blue flowers with their gold centers and green leaves are connected by inter-spaced gold dots. The talented artist, A. Richards, has this so well done and it is very pretty with the gold highlights. The artist extended the "h" in the last name downward to be the "1" in "16" meaning 1916. CONDITION: The condition of this set is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There is very minor age-appropriate rubbing to the gold on the corners of the handles. This certainly does not detract from the beauty of the set. There are no utensil marks. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, scratches or hairlines. It appears to be in lovingly used condition; see the photos to judge for yourself. DIMENSIONS: The creamer handle to spout is 4" with a diameter of 2 7/8" & a height of 2 5/8" to the top of the spout. The sugar handle to handle is 4 5/8" with a diameter of 3 1/4". To the top of the lid's handle is 3 1/8". HISTORY/MARKS: In 1884, Moritz Zdekauer purchased the factory in Altrohlau, Bohemia Austria that had been started in 1810 by Benedikt Hasslacher. The letters “MZ” have been a continuous part of the logo to the current day including being on the factory building today. In 1909, C. M. Hutschenreuther acquired the company naming it Altrohlauer Porzellanfabriken (Altrohlau Porcelain Factories) while changing the mark, but retaining the MZ designation. After having been nationalized in 1945, the company was again privatized in 1992 and is currently known as Starorolský Porcelán Moritz Zdekauer a.s., located in Stará Role, Czech Republic. As was true with the original MZ porcelain, all of the Hutschenreuther Companies were trend setters of high quality porcelain. Hutschenreuther became known for the love of detail, distinctive brilliance of color, and lustrous beauty shown through the decorating of the fine porcelain pieces. According to the website, marks4ceramics, the mark on the bottom of the set is identified as mark #3 which was used in the 1884-1910 time period. This was probably imported into the USA just prior to WW1 and decorated by an American artist in 1916. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
