PROVENANCE:This lot came within a larger archive of Heal family items I will be listing. The items fall broadly into two categories: Various books and ephemera once belonging to Sir Ambrose Heal, and various items of motoring ephemera once belonging to Anthony Heal.Sir Ambrose Heal, (3 Sep 1872 - 15 Nov 1959) English furniture designer & businessman in the early 20th century. He joined Heal's in 1893, & was chairman (then called Heal & Son) from 1913 to 1953. Under Heal, the company introduced Arts & Craft style to mechanised furniture production, making it available to the middle classes. Apart from work interests, Heal collected London historical ephemera, mainly from the 17th & 18th centuries, inc. records of tradesmen, goldsmiths, calligraphers, signboards and furniture makers. His collection of trade-cards is preserved at the British Museum. He was the author of five books. (see Wikipedia). Anthony Standerwick Heal, (23 Feb 1907 - 25 Mar 1995) son of Sir Ambrose & his 2nd wife, Edith Heal. From a schoolboy spectator at Brooklands, to avid car collector. Heal was a leading member of the Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC) for 40 years, organising & competing in events. He won a silver medal at his first attempt in 1931 MCC Lands End Trial. By 1930s, he was winning medals in a 30/98 Vauxhall. He rescued & restored (& subsequently raced), with the help of Len Gibbs, a Fiat racing car built in 1910 with a 10-litre, 4 cylinder engine & chain drive. In 1937 he bought the 1919 5-litre Ballot Indianapolis racing car. Heal owned many, & was an authority on Sunbeam cars, and published 'Sunbeam Racing Cars. 1910-1930' in 1986. Search "History, Monuments and Memorials of Penn" for a concise history of Heals motoring achievements. ______________________________ Combined Postage UK Based Customers:I can usually combine UK postage, depending on weight and size, usually 50p for each subsequent purchase, on top of highest first post cost.
