Description: New CD INSOMNIUM -ANNO 1696- from Japan Description Description INSOMNIUM, now a veteran melodic death metal band representing Finland, has released their latest studio album, their first in about three and a half years. Former SONATA ARCTICA guitarist Jani Liimatainen has officially joined the band since their previous album [Heart Like a Grave] (2019/not released in Japan), and the band's range of expression has expanded even more than before. This is a concept album based on an original story written by vocalist Niiro Sevanen. The album title [Anno 1696] means [1696], and it is the year that indicated the dark age of witch trials and great famines that occurred in Europe, including Finland, at that time, when many lives were lost. Niiro, the original author, wrote [Anno 1696]. It deals with this dark chapter in Finnish history, and at the same time pays homage to Aino Karas' legendary Finnish novel "Sudenmorshan", one of the stories that features werewolves. This is the greatest novel Finland has ever produced. "The novel has a very dark and tragic tone, and I wanted to capture that when I wrote my story," he said. The band expresses this tragic story with their trademark melodic, grandiose and melancholic melodies, and songs with dramatic developments that mix tempo and tempo, creating a unified worldview reminiscent of a movie soundtrack in just one album. The Japanese version is released as a two-disc set, with DISC 1 telling the main story, and DISC 2 adding the EP [Songs of the Dusk], which is a complementary content that delves deeper into the story and describes it in detail, allowing you to grasp the full story.
