nice KK Keen Kutter No 4 wood plane made by Sargent for E C Simmons Hardware

Description: You are bidding on one Keen Kutter Number 4 sized wood plane as pictured.It is marked "MADE IN USA" behind the frog, "KEEN KUTTER" in their logo on the lever cap, "E C SIMMONS KEEN KUTTER" in their logo on the iron, and it is marked "409" on the underside of the frog as shown. This is their equivalent to the Stanley Number 4 plane. Overall length of the body including the tail under the rear handle is about 9-15/16", and the iron is about a 32nd under 2" in width. The "409" on the underside of the frog is a Sargent number, and this was made for Keen Kutter by Sargent.Condition is good to very good. The bottom has a lot of scratches from an aggressive cleaning by a prior owner, but no pitting. The sides have some very faint pitting. Most of the japanning and the red frog paint is intact. The front knob and rear handle don't match for color. The front knob is excellent, looks refinished, and has only a few scratches and dings. The rear handle is equally nice, but has a much paler color and a few chips around the hole for the brass nut on top. The line you see on the left side of the handle is a grain line and not a crack. The iron still has the original grinding marks visible, and the iron and chip breaker and lever cap each have some patina (color) and faint pitting. There are no cracks or chips or chunks missing from any of the castings, and everything operates properly. SHIPPING: 5 pounds when boxed, insurance is included. No International shipping. The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it's not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20" long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30" long, because those longer packages won't fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay. If I ship to a state where eBay is required to collect sales tax, eBay will charge you the sales tax for your location. There is lots of information available from eBay that explains it in much more detail. The sales tax is completely out of my hands -- I don't have anything to do with deciding whether to charge tax, I don't have anything to do with deciding the tax rate, and I never see any of the funds that are collected, they go directly to eBay.SELLING OUTSIDE OF EBAY: Why would I risk my lengthy good standing with eBay to save you a couple of dollars?
