Description: Offered is the very nice Nightforce Varminter Model 5.5 to 22X Variable Power, 56mm Objective Rifle Scope pictured. I purchased this scope new in Summer 1999, mounted it atop a dedicated Prairie Dog bench rifle and used it gently one hunt. The scope has been boxed up in storage since and is in very nice condition. The scope tube is 30mm diameter, the objective is parallax adjustable and is 56mm diameter. The scope is equipped with a lighted reticle system with 10 intensity level settings and powered by one CR2032Lithium Cell. Of course, the magnification is continuously variable from 5.5 to22X. The Reticle System is the Nightforce NP-1RR as pictured. The scope has been used once as stated and it shows light handling marks as pictured. The optics are perfect, and all adjustments work perfectly. As is always the case with a used scope, the mounting rings left faint, barely noticeable, marks on the scope tube you can see if you examine the pictures closely. The windage and elevation adjustment knobs are target type, “click” adjustable without tools with each “click” being 1/8M.O.A. The optional 3-Inch Nightforce sunshade ($30.00 at Bruno) that threads into the objective and threaded aluminum objective and eye lens covers are also included. The scope is 22-5/8 inches long w/the 3” sunshade in place and, of course, 19-5/8 inches long with it removed. Equipped with the sunshade and lens covers, the scope weighs 2 lb – 9.8 oz. While the latest 5.5-22X models offer side focus capability and use a different reticle system they’re essentially the same scope. Reticle systems come and go and makers are constantly tweaking and updating their products to make them appear fresh on the market. While side focus is undeniably an improvement only you can decide what having it is worth. I found the NP-1RR reticle system very easy to use and range with and I appreciated the multiple aiming points available for use in making corrections for elevation and particularly for windage. The reticle is etched on an interior glass lens and, unlike some systems, it’s always the same size regardless of the magnification setting ie: the reticle lines don’t appear thicker with increased magnification. All these Stadia type Ranging Systems rely on the principle that two reticle lines subtend a specific distance at a specific range when set at a specific magnification. In addition to multiple MOA references, the reticle has points at 300,400, 500, 600, 700 and 800 yards where circles subtend 9 inches and lines subtend 18 inches when set at 22X. Of course, since the stadia system is a linear system, these points would subtend18 and 36 inches at 11X. The scope will come with the pictured factory original packing materials and the factory original box. I will double box the factory box to ensure it’s not damaged in shipment, or all taped up.
