Noel Marcel Lambert: A graduate of the Beaux-Arts (class of 1865), Marcel Lambert was a pupil of Alexis Paccard and Louis-Jules André2. He won the first Grand Prix de Rome at the age of 26, in 1873. This distinction allowed him to become a resident for three years at the Villa Medici, in Rome, from 1874 to 1877. The regulations of the French Academy in Rome authorizing him to stay at the French school in Athens4, he left for Greece in 1877 and carried out an excavation campaign there on the Erechtheion5. He then led, in 1878, the restoration of the west face of the Parthenon. That same year, he was rewarded with a medal at the Universal Exhibition of 18782. Marcel Lambert's shipments6 from Athens are now kept at the National School of Fine Arts7. Appointed architect of civil buildings, he became rapporteur for the Council of Civil Buildings, in 1888, Marcel Lambert became chief architect of the palaces of Versailles and Trianon, where he succeeded Alfred Leclerc. For twenty-four years, until his departure in 1912, he carried out a considerable amount of work in this position, benefiting from the advice - sometimes very strongly argued - of Pierre de Nolhac, chief curator throughout this period (depending on 1892 to 1920).The item pictured is the actual item you will receive and is part of the item’s description.
