Description: This listing is for one single set, but I have four available. Made in Japan in the 1940's, this Noritake teacup and saucer set is beautifully handpainted and artist-signed. Complete with golden handles and gold rims, both items bear the rare 1940s Noritake crown & banner logo with the letter M which is especially desirable for collectors. Similar to Noritake's azalea pattern, the flowers on these cups look more like wild roses, yet they retain some mystery since I have not yet discovered the exact name of this pattern—perhaps another little indication of rarity? History: “Noritake was first started by the Morimuro brothers in 1875 who imported china and giftware from Japan to New York City. That's what the M stands for on the Noritake backstamp. The brothers did not get into the manufacturing business until 1904 when they started their own porcelain factory in Nagoya, Japan. It took ten years to refine their style and build up a foundation of products that would eventually become sought after around the world. As symbols of elegance, artistry and superior craftsmanship, Noritake has been dazzling tabletops for over 100 years. Still in business today, it is a wonderful example of a distinct art form that has successfully navigated the changing landscapes of the 20th century. Without ever losing their relevancy, sense of unique style and beautiful craftsmanship, Noritake is still as classic and stylish and sought after as it was in 1920 and will continue to be into 2020.” {SPECIAL FEATURES} - Gold handles -Artist Signed - Gold rims They are in very nice preowned condition with no chips or breaks detected. There may some tarnish to gold in areas. Regardless, there will be variation to color and texture due to the handpainted nature of this item.
