This has a scalloped blue band around the scalloped edge of both the bowl and underplate. The band that has gold stars in a crosshatching pattern with gold & black outlining. The center is the high white of the porcelain and the area between the center and the blue band is a cream color with a gold garland & white flowers in black cartouches. The color palette is simple: blue and black on cream & white w/gold. The design looks so classic. The outside of the bowl and ladle are white. The ladle has marbled blue band around the inside of its bowl and the black & gold cartouche in the bottom of its bowl. The fancy handle with its 4 small raised beads and gold stripes are painted cream and trimmed in gold. CONDITION: While this decorative condiment set is classified as used, the condition is superb. The only wear we can see is in the blue of the underplate. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, other rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks or wear on the gold. DIMENSIONS: The oval underplate is 7 1/4" by 5" with a height of 15/16". The oval bowl is 6 1/4" by 4 1/4" with a height of 2 1/4" and a capacity of 4 ounce. HISTORY/MARKS: Morimura Bros. formed the trading and decorating company in 1876 which evolved into Noritake. Noritake Company has a rich history of producing porcelain china all the way from January 1, 1904 when the Nippon Toki Kaisha Ltd - the forerunner to the present Noritake Company - was formed in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near Nagoya, Japan with its huge kaolin clay sources. The first reported U.S. registry for a Noritake backstamp for importing is 1911. The backstamp on the ladle & bowl is the green mark #26.0 as cited in David Spain's Art Deco Noritake & More. This mark was used from 1918-1931. The underplate is unmarked, but obviously matches the other two pieces. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
