Description: This is a contemporary copy of an important letter from the King of France to the Pope, explaining his thoughts on the status of English Catholicism in England after the glorious revolution of 1688 from the chancery of an important Italian court, perhaps from Florence, as the watermark is a depiction of the Florentine coat of arms. Perhaps it was from the hand of a scribe from the papal court or of, a cardinal's personal secretary, or that of a bishop. This letter is rare, and shows how the king and the Pope reacted to the glorious revolution and what were their plans, moving forward. It was later translated into English, as an anti Catholic propaganda pamphlet. This may be one of a handful of early copies that originated from Italy, the destination of the original letter. Fold mark though the middle, with a transverse stain as seen. Some wrinkling on the margins. 10 by 6 inch rag paper document.
