Old Golden Oak 2-piece Fireplace Surround Hearth Fender w/Carved Lion Paw Detail

Description: Old Golden Oak Two-piece Fireplace Surround Hearth Fender w/Carved Lion Paw Detail Nice old, probably antique, two-piece golden oak fireplace or hearth fender or surround with carved lion paw feet at each corner. Well made with dovetailed corners and square cut nails. Appears to be original finish. Very unique – maybe one-of-a-kind. Unusual two-piece design butts together in the center. There is a small metal piece at each end of each piece that may have been used to connect and hold the two pieces together in front of the hearth or fireplace. Wood fenders are relatively rare as compared to metal fenders. This one may have once been lined with tin or brass on the inside surface to protect from heat and hot coals. (There are small tack holes on the inside surface where the metal may have been attached.) Small size (approx. 48” wide by approx. 15” deep) was probably for use with a smaller coal burning fireplace or a bedroom hearth. A great accessory for an old home or re-purpose for a new decorator accent. Very good to excellent condition. Size: each piece is approx. 23-3/4” wide by 14-3/4” front to back by 6-1/4” tall at the highest point. Placed together the width side to side is almost 4 feet (47-1/2”).
